Having played the beta, I can say that Starcraft 2 has a very familiar feel reminiscent of the original Starcraft but loaded with (much) better graphics, new units and terrains as well as a plethora of new and exciting content (read: story immersion)!
It's this familiarity (functionally almost identical to the original Starcraft) that will make picking up Starcraft 2 and immersing yourself into it immediately almost effortless.
